So the *plan* for the weekend went as follows. `Rest, get lots of sleep, recover from lots of weekends away, more sleep'

Got off to a good start when Friday night's classic DnD game finished at 3am, at which point we ran out of wine and our host broke out the vintage port. Saturday was more relaxing - bimbled round the shops, bought a laundry basket (note my playboy lifestyle here...), then met up with [info]elektrobard in town for food and beer.

Sunday, since the weather was good, I went to Stanage in the Peak district. It was a good day's climbing, although today I feel a bit like I've been put in a sack and beaten with sticks. Nice mix of styles, delicate slabs, bridging, laybacks and precarious balancing acts. Less good was the jamming. This is a technique where you wedge your hand into a crack so that it acts as a natural chockstone, thereby manufactiring a hold where there isn't one. Doing this on peak gritstone (which has the texture of rough sandpaper) requires skill, which I do not have. Am missing a fair bit of skin...
